Deleting a contact does not remove it right away. Contacts deleted from a list or from Contacts are marked for deletion and moved to Trash, where they stay until they are restored or removed for good.

A contact in the trash is off every list it was on, survey lists included, and out of any sending automation. No further survey invitations will be sent to these contacts.

Deleting a contact

Select the contacts in All contacts or on any list, open the three-dot menu at the right of the selection bar, and pick Delete.

Lists have a delete of their own, and it does the same thing — the contact leaves every list it was on and lands in the trash, not only the list it was deleted from.

Finding deleted contacts

Trash sits at the foot of the contacts sidebar, under Less. It lists every deleted contact, with the date it was deleted in the Deleted at column.

Restoring or removing for good

Select the contacts in the trash. Restore returns them to the lists they were on, and a restored contact rejoins any sending automation at the point it left rather than starting over. Delete permanently asks for the word DELETE to be typed into a confirmation box before it runs.

Wrapping up

Leaving contacts in the trash is enough to stop sending to them — nothing has to be removed permanently for invitations to stop, and contacts in the trash don't count toward the account's contact limit. Deleted contacts stay in the trash until someone clears them, so a contact still listed there is not a sign that the deletion failed.
