Adding rules to survey forms

Note: This help article applies to Custom Surveys. The default rules can't be freely modified with the template surveys.

About rules

Adding rules is a nifty way of adding more functionality to your surveys. By adding rules you can customize how the pages and questions appear depending on how the respondee answers.

The most common use case for this is to show a certain page or additional question only when the respondee gives a high (or low) enough score in a previous question.

Adding rules

To add rules to a page, click on the three-dot menu on any of the pages on the left in the survey editor. From the drop-down menu, click on Rules. Adding rules to questions is done similarly, but by opening the rule menu from the three-dot menu on a question.

The rules menu pops up in the editor. This is where you can set the rules for your questions and pages.

The basic principle here is that the rules should always be set on the question you want to show or hide, not the one that triggers the rule.

In the example below, the question is only displayed for the respondee if their answer on the first question (NPS) is greater than 7.

Additionally, you can also set multiple conditions for one question or page with the AND/OR operators.
